About Us
The University of Pittsburgh ASCE Student Chapter has been a pillar of the Swanson School of Engineering and the professional community for the last 70 years. This award-winning section currently has over 140 student members and is actively engaged in learning and excelling within the profession of civil engineering.
More than 146,000 individual ASCE members are engaged in engineering education, research, public agency, industrial, construction, and private engineering practice. Founded in 1852, ASCE currently has more than 245 Sections and Branches, 281 Student Chapters, and has members in more than 100 countries.

Mission
The mission of this chapter shall be to afford an opportunity for the members of the Civil Engineering classes to become acquainted; to promote a spirit of congeniality among them; to acquaint them with topics of interest to Civil Engineering students through the medium of addresses by competent speakers; to provide members with opportunities to apply Civil Engineering concepts and knowledge; and to foster the development of a professional spirit.
Goals
- Facilitate the advancement of technology to enhance quality, knowledge, competitiveness, sustainability, and environmental stewardship.
- Encourage and provide the tools for lifelong learning to aid our members' continued growth throughout their careers.
- Promote professionalism and the profession throughout society to enhance the stature of civil engineers and to influence public policy.
- Develop and support civil engineer leaders to broaden our members' perspectives, enhance their career growth, and promote the public interest.
- Advocate infrastructure and environmental stewardship to protect the public health and safety and improve the quality of life.
